*Removing grow tubes: September 21. As we begin to enter fall and the temperatures start to drop, it is important that grow tubes are removed from young vines to enable them to fully harden off before winter .This is due to a microclimate that grow tubes create, which will prolong growth in fall unless removed and can compromise winter hardiness.

*Viticulture Seminar Series: On Tuesday September 30, Dr. Akif Eskalen from the University of California, Davis will present on the biology and management of powdery mildew and explain how new and potential treatments are evaluated.

*July 30 2021

The last few weeks have brought much needed rain to the Western Slope and it has been nearly a daily occurrence this week. However, this precipitation along with increased humidity has created conducive conditions for powdery mildew to spread quickly throughout the canopy. With this in mind, and more rain forecast, please closely monitor closely for powdery mildew and make timely fungicide applications. Please note that with most fungicides, harvest should not take place within a certain time period after application. Check fungicide label for this time period. Taking action now also limits a buildup of inoculum for the subsequent years infection.

Furthermore, botrytis bunch rot presents a risk under these conditions for those with a history of this fungal disease and in varieties with tightly bunched clusters and dense canopies.

Best regards,

Rob.
